CoCo Inspo | Cozy Comfort : Trends That We Will Be Foreshadowing In 2022

As we move past the gray phase, the sleek, cool modern appeal fades, and like any good fashionable moment, it shrinks and makes room for what is new. Here are some of the trends we will implement in our designs in 2022!

Our paint colors are not the only thing getting softer and warmer in 2022—our wood stains are too! You will find our designs focusing on warm natural wood tones, texture, and details. All of the qualities one craves for their home, especially here in New England. We will be using lots of warm whites, keeping things monochromatic with our walls and trim. Our favorite cream paint color is White Dove by BM, but you might see us even go further with the warm whites, even creamy off whites this season.

Image from Benjamin Moore

Benjamin Moore picked a soft gray-green for the color of the year, called October Mist—a soft, subtle sage green that blends expression with neutrality. Similarly, Sherwin-Williams settled on a sage, and Glidden chose a light olive green. It quickly became apparent that this paint color creates a canvas for experimentation with its earthy tones! It has connective qualities and can act as a bridge to bringing playful and bolder colors into your home.

As usual, you will notice the herringbone floors in white oak we have featured in the past staying prominent. With the recent renovation of Erica’s kitchen, she introduced this in a more classical way where she used the 2 ¼” white oak for this application. She went with a clear stain with a satin finish; it pulled all of those warm golden tones that created a look similar to Rapunzel’s perfectly blonde ombre hair braided, where the darker and lighter tones live together harmoniously. This worked in our favor because the eye is drawn to the wide part of the “V” in herringbone, the pattern conjures an optical illusion that suggests a larger area. This effect makes herringbone floors a good choice for compact spaces like laundry rooms, powder rooms, and entryways.

Let’s talk more about the traditional details; we mentioned the Parisian Paneling in our previous CoCo Inspo blog posts. Overall, people want a cozy, clean look and feel in 2022. The style trending is very traditional European/Scandinavian natural minimalism with design choices like plaster elements, layering of whites, and wood tones. After spending so much time indoors, many of us have realized which parts of our homes are cozy—and which parts aren’t. We’re upgrading to comfort anywhere we can. It’s a year for rejuvenation and refreshment after two very tough years. Expect to see cozy textiles, subtle colors, and soft-edged pieces.

We begin to see these details in the fringe of a sofa feature in the latest Serena and Lily catalog. Serena and Lily are always setting the tone for the newest fashion trends. This latest catalog has given us all the feels capturing warm wood tones, warm whites, texture, and traditional details.

Broadway #4: Designer Condominium | Designs By Erica

In honor of the new year, let’s throw it back to the beginning of 2021 with #DesignsByErica!✨ From Erica’s Broadway project at the beginning of the year to just completing her very own kitchen this last week! There have been so many good projects to look back and reminisce on and this one definitely started the year off right! Let’s do that again this coming year, but even BIGGER!

Erica designed his spacious condo to be inviting and styled to perfection. Bringing some major drama with a statement wall made from custom millwork painted in Hale Navy By Benjamin Moore. This wall that runs through the living room and halls creates a theme of power and importance. When creating a statement wall, you want to pick a color that will WOW when you walk into the room. The darkness of the navy has that WOW factor while still looking clean and classic.

Filled with chic designer finishes and lots of natural light, this spacious home invites you inside with a gracious foyer that greets you with a built-in designer mudroom detail, perfect for organization. Enjoy comfortable daily living or entertaining in the large living and dining rooms topped by elevated details throughout. This chef’s kitchen dazzles with classic white cabinets, accented with brushed brass hardware and surrounded by beautiful, super white dolomite counters, highlighted by a stylish tile backsplash. Premium appliances to test your culinary skills, and the open floor plan yields great entertainment.

Head to the impressive owner’s suite to find a king-size layout and a roomy walk-through dressing area with a spacious closet. Ahead, the tranquil en suite bathroom beckons with handsome large-format and herringbone tilework, a floating double vanity with vessel sinks, and a relaxing shower. Two large secondary bedrooms — one with a walk-in closet — share a beautifully appointed guest bathroom with gorgeous black matte fixtures. A custom ladder leads to a cozy loft that pools light to the main living area. It adds an architectural element showcasing both form and function, perfect morning yoga, and afternoon work from home sessions.

Gold hardware enhances a clean white space. An industrial style brushed gold faucet is a simple, yet eye-catching visual element in this kitchen.

CoCo Inspo | 2022 Trends: Self Expressive Statement Lighting! 💡

It’s no secret that statement lighting has been popular in recent years, thanks to the popularity of neon signs and mushroom lights. Etsy’s estimates for 2022 indicate that this trend will continue. Dayna Isom Johnson, the brand’s trend specialist, highlighted in a new analysis that searches for various types of dramatic lighting are on the rise — and all signs point to this trend continuing to make a big impact in the new year.

Dayna Isom Johnson, Etsy‘s Trend Expert, says: ‘Equal parts functional and fashionable, statement lighting allows folks to spotlight their beautiful homes while doubling as eye-catching artwork. Many are already on the hunt for statement lighting – from sculptural pendants to standout sconces – that reflects their own personal style. On Etsy, we’ve seen a 344 percent increase in searches for 70s lighting, a 27 percent increase in searches for sculptural or decorative lighting, a 25 percent increase in searches for vintage lighting, and a 22 percent increase in searches for colorful lighting.’

Many people are already looking for statement lighting that matches their particular style, from sculptural pendants to eye-catching sconces. Statement lighting is both practical and fashionable, allowing people to highlight their magnificent houses while also serving as eye-catching artwork. However, statement lighting isn’t the only thing that’s hot right now. Etsy consumers are focusing on four varieties in particular, according to the company, including one that has had a 344 percent increase in searches in the last three months compared to the same period last year.

Form follows function in 2022, as we see a resurface of lighting as decorative objects. Keep scrolling to check the trends, as well as the rest of our favorite up-and-coming lighting styles to watch out for this year!

Sculptural Lighting

Sculptural, organic, and curvy shapes have been showing up everywhere lately. According to Etsy, that includes lighting: The platform has seen a 27% increase in searches for sculptural or decorative lighting in the last three months, as compared to the same time last year.

‘70s Lighting

That 344% increase in searches? Yeah, that was for ‘70s lighting. The 70s-style decor has seen a big resurgence in interiors as of late. We are spending more time at home and want our homes to feel more lived-in, snug, and visually soothing. Eddie Maestri of Maestri Studio said in a previous interview, “Elements of ’70s decor such as textured weaves, caning, bold colors, and layered patterns make us feel right at home, but still have the sophistication of mid-century design.”

Vintage Lighting

Image from Rejuvenation

Not only are the 1970s making a comeback, but antique lighting, in general, is witnessing a 25% spike in demand on Etsy. This corresponds to designer projections for 2022 decor trends. Stephanie Purzycki, co-founder, and CEO of The Finish, recently stated “With supply chain crunches around the world and a global focus on eco-friendliness, purchasing vintage, antique, or pre-loved pieces is a way to circumvent the long manufacturer lead times, while also reducing your carbon footprint,”.

Colorful Lighting

Image from Shopify

The prevalent minimalism of the past is beginning to fade, and the globe is once again embracing maximalism in 2022. According to data from Etsy, searches for colorful lighting have increased by 22%. Though you definitely don’t need hard data to see that this is true – pastels are everywhere, Grandmillennial style has gone mainstream, and bold wallpaper is gaining popularity by the day.
